Philosoraptor là gì?

Philosoraptor đề cập đến meme ảnh thuộc định dạng advice animals với hình minh họa 1 con khủng long Velociraptor đang thắc mắc về 1 câu hỏi hoặc nghịch lý kỳ quặc .

Nguồn gốc

Ngày 8/10/2008, bức ảnh gốc Philosoraptor được ra mắt và đăng ký bởi Sam Smith dưới dạng thiết kế áo phông để bán trên nhà bán lẻ trực tuyến Lonely Dinosaur (*).

The philosoraptor opens the doors of perception, periodically tests the fences of reality, and opens your mind using 80 razor sharp teeth and two 4 inch sickle claws. “That’s not very scary, looks more like a 6-foot turkey” you say, well, was it Kierkegaard or Dick Van Dyke that said “if you label me, you negate me”? The point is… you are alive when the Philosoraptor engages you in Socratic dialogue. So you know… try to show a little respect.

Theo Know Your Meme, Smith cho biết ý tưởng về Philosoraptor được hình thành từ đầu mùa hè năm 2008. Thiết kế này được hoàn thành trong khoảng tháng 8-9/2008.

The image itself was a mix of several images of velociraptors I got online, which I compressed to one-color images, then mixed together. I took the jaw off of one at the mouth, and cut it open to make the mouth look like it was hanging open. The claw was based off an image of an eagle talon that I flattened, drew in some bits, and moved and enlarged one of them to make the raptor-like claw. The last thing I did was nudge the eye slit over to the right like three times, and that pulled it all together- really gives him that far-away look.

Tiền thân

Mặc dù hình ảnh về chú khủng long Philosoraptor xuất hiện từ 1 thiết kế áo phông của Sam Smith nhưng từ ghép này (Philosopher và Velociraptor) đã xuất hiện trong 1 số tài liệu trước đó như trên Enchanted Learning ngày 28/12/1998 (*) hay 1 trang blog mang tên Philosoraptor từ tháng 3/2003 (*).

Thuật ngữ này cũng đã xuất hiện trong 1 số sản phẩm trên Lonely Dinosaur trước đó. Ngày 30/3/2007, 1 trang YTMND với tiêu đề “New species of dinosaur discovered!” được tạo với hình ảnh được chỉnh sửa của 1 con  Velociraptor từ bộ phim Jurassic Park, phát hành năm 1993, đang cầm 1 bản sao của cuốn sách Plato’s complete work (*).

Sự lan truyền

Tháng 11/2009, Philosoraptor được thêm vào danh sách những biến thể của định dạng meme Advice Dog (Advice Animals) trên Encyclopedia Dramatica. Ngày 26/11/2009, 1 định nghĩa cho thuật ngữ này được thêm vào Urban Dictionary (*).

Tháng 12/2009, Sam Smith gửi email cho Lonely Dinosaur chl biết anh cảm thấy ổn đối với việc hình ảnh này trở thành meme trên Internet.

We’re not exactly sure who started putting text over it, and far be it from us to try and control a meme… We put a creative commons non-commercial license on it, so all your stuff is cool and we think what you’re doing is great, but now everyone thinks that the shirt we’re selling is just something we cut and pasted off the web, which kind of sucks for us. It’d be cool to see if we could put our side of the story out there and see if we can find the person who first put text over it, and have a complete history of origin of the meme.

Ngày 25/10/2010, trang Smosh đăng bài tổng hợp 20 hình ảnh meme dựa trên chú khủng long này (*). Ngày 23/11/2010, Mary Sue đăng 1 bài tổng hợp khác với 50 phiên bản khác nhau của meme này (*).

Tháng 7/2011, Philosoraptor đạt “God Tier” trên Meme Generator với hơn 38 nghìn phiên bản được tạo (*). Ngày 30/12/2011, Youtuber Topher Schultz đăng tải video Philosoraptor Song và đạt hơn 590 nghìn lượt xem trong 10 năm.

Ngày 28/8/2012, kênh Youtube animeme đăng tải video tổng hợp 1 loạt meme về chú khủng long này. Video đạt hơn 1.1 triệu lượt xem trong 9 năm.

Tháng 10/2013, 1 chủ đề về những meme liên quan đến philosoraptor được đăng lên Quora (*). Ngày 30/3/2016, Observer đăng tải 1 bài viết về meme này (*).
